Success is not shameful

Success being considered shameful is a sign of toxic culture. It is driven by jealousy from people who aim to use shame as a weapon against those who they are jealous of.

In Ireland we have a special word for this called begrudgery:

"begrudgery (Sociology) [informal Irish] resentment of any person who has achieved success or wealth"

Ref: https://www.thefreedictionary.com/begrudgery

Historically in Ireland we had a culture of being suspicious of anyone being wealthy or successful, as they were generally part of the ruling class, but thankfully in modern Ireland this is no longer the case.

Sadly however I am seeing many examples internationally of begrudgery of successful people, especially those in tech with a high profile.

If someone is successful due to their hard work and talent, they deserve to be celebrated and not begrudged.
