If you can look past the click bait title, this video is well worth two hours of your time and is a good way to start the new year with some thought provoking opinions and hopefully some inspiration. I have always believed that taking a contrarian approach to personal finance and your career management pays dividends, so found many of my beliefs reflected here in this video featuring the Managing Partner of the Institute of Trading and Portfolio Management Anton Kreil:

The 10 "secrets" are:

  1. Respect Money and be Indifferent towards it
  2. Rent to Own – Define Assets and Liabilities Properly
  3. Build and Own your own Infrastructure
  4. Go Travelling, Get Perspective, Get your Dream Life
  5. Know that Risk is Subjective not Two Dimensional
  6. Seek out Alternative Education
  7. Learn to Value your Time Properly
  8. Ditch the Smart Phone
  9. Mainstream Media is Useless. Don’t consume it
  10. Choose Role Models that suit Your Objective

Notwithstanding my recent love affair with the Blackberry Classic, I ditched all social networks a few years back and found it very liberating, and have since felt that the next logical step down that path is to ditch the smart phone. Mr Kriel has me thinking about the benefits of this once again.
