Hacker News needs better submission URL deduplication

Published on 2014-04-01 by John Collins.

Yesterday I submitted the news to Hacker News that MariaDB 10 had been released, you can see my submission on my profile.

Today I was surprised to see the same link to the MariaDB blog on the home page of Hacker News, only this time from a different user. Confused by this, I done some digging and realized that Hacker News makes no attempt to deduplicate submission URLs, even to the basic extend of trailing slashes:

https://blog.mariadb.org/the-mariadb-foundation-announces-general-availability-of-mariadb-10/ (submitted by me "1 day ago")
https://blog.mariadb.org/the-mariadb-foundation-announces-general-availability-of-mariadb-10 (submitted by another "13 hours ago")

Lame. My search for a better alternative to Hacker News continues...
